Coconut Oil
History

Parachute Gold range contains coconut oil as a key ingredient.

Coconut oil has been in use for consumption and external application since time immemorial. One of the earliest mentions of the coconut dates back to the ‘One Thousand and One Nights’ story of Sinbad the Sailor; he is known to have bought and sold coconuts during his fifth voyage. The origins of the coconut in India can be seen in its original name “tenga”, its Malayalam and Tamil name, and referred to in the literary work ‘Itinerario’ by Ludovico di Varthema, published in 1510.

Coconut oil has been historically used for thousands of years for hair, beauty and health. The word ‘shampoo’ is derived from the word ‘champu’ meaning massaging with oil, after which the hair would be washed. Indian mythology and ancient history is peppered with women known for their hair beauty, and massages with coconut oil can be seen as a ritual of this period.

In recent times, scientific evidence has added new credibility to a time-tested beauty secret of generations of beautiful Indian women – the power of coconut oil and its ability to nourish, preserve, protect and beautify the hair.
